  • La experiencia en el Planetario Yanahuara comienza con una charla educativa sobre la astronomía inca, donde se explora la importancia del Valle Sagrado en la cosmovisión andina. Luego, los visitantes son transportados a un mundo de maravillas celestes a través de una proyección en un domo 360°, que recrea el cielo austral y las constelaciones incas, enriquecida con relatos fascinantes que conectan el pasado con el presente. Para culminar, y si el clima lo permite, se ofrece una observación directa del cielo nocturno utilizando telescopios, permitiendo admirar estrellas, planetas y nebulosas en todo su esplendor. Esta combinación de aprendizaje y observación práctica hace de la visita una experiencia única y enriquecedora.

Itinerary

  • 6:00 PM – Pickup and departure from Plaza Regocijo.
  • We meet at Plaza Regocijo, a central and easily accessible point, located just a few steps from the vehicle on Saphi Street. Here, we organize ourselves and depart for the Planetarium in Yanahuara, located in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
  • 7:00 PM – Arrival at Yanahuara Planetarium.
  • Upon arrival at the planetarium, we will be welcomed by a team of specialized guides in astronomy and Andean culture. They will give us a brief introduction to the experience we are about to have, highlighting the importance of the sky in the Inca worldview.
  • 7:10 PM – Introduction to Inca astronomy.
  • In this first part of the experience, we enter the interpretation rooms, where we will learn how the Incas observed the sky and what it meant for their daily lives.
  • 7:15 PM – Projection of the southern sky in the planetarium dome.
  • We head to the dome to enjoy an impressive projection of the night sky. Here, we will see a detailed recreation of official constellations as well as Inca constellations.
  • 7:45 PM – Telescope observation (subject to weather conditions).
  • If the weather allows, we will move to an outdoor observation area, where we will use telescopes to admire celestial objects in real-time. Depending on visibility, we may observe stars, planets, nebulae, and constellations of the southern hemisphere, guided by experts who will help us identify and understand their importance in both modern and ancient astronomy.
  • 8:00 PM – Return to the city.
  • We conclude our experience and begin the return journey to Cusco, arriving back at Plaza Regocijo. Along the way, we can share impressions and reflect on the fascinating connection between the sky and the Inca culture, leaving with a new perspective on astronomy and Andean history.

  • The best season to admire the starry sky of Cusco is from May to September, when the nights are clearer and visibility is optimal. During these months, especially in June, July, and August, the sky is clearer, allowing for a better view of the Andean constellations. To fully enjoy the experience, it is recommended to avoid full moon nights, dress warmly, and check the weather forecast, as temperatures can drop significantly.
