- The Cusco Planetarium experience begins with a fascinating introduction to Inca astronomy, where visitors learn about the unique connection they had with the cosmos. Afterwards, you will visit the 360° dome that reveals modern constellations as well as those recognized by the ancient Incas. Itinerary
- 5:30 PM – Pickup and departure from Plaza Regocijo.
- We meet at Plaza Regocijo, a central and easily accessible location, just a few steps from the vehicle on Saphi Street. Here, we organize ourselves and depart for the Planetarium Cusco, located in the Llaullipata area, on the outskirts of the city.
- 6:05 PM – Arrival at Planetarium Cusco.
- Upon arrival at the planetarium, we will be welcomed by a team of specialized guides in astronomy and Andean culture. They will give us a brief introduction to the experience, highlighting the importance of the sky in the Inca worldview.
- 6:10 PM – Introduction to Inca astronomy.
- In this first part of the experience, we enter the interpretation rooms, where we will learn how the Incas observed the sky and what it meant for their daily lives.
- 6:40 PM – Projection of the southern sky in the planetarium dome.
- We head to the dome to enjoy an impressive projection of the night sky of the Southern Hemisphere. Here, we will see a detailed recreation of official stars and constellations, as well as the Inca constellations.
- 7:10 PM – Observation with telescopes (subject to weather conditions).
- If the weather allows, we will move to an outdoor observation area, where we will use telescopes to admire celestial objects in real-time. Depending on visibility, we may observe stars, planets, nebulae, and Southern Hemisphere constellations, guided by experts who will help us identify them and understand their importance in both modern and ancient astronomy.
- 7:40 PM – Return to the city.
- We conclude our experience and begin the return to Cusco, arriving back at Plaza Regocijo. During the journey, we can share impressions and reflect on the fascinating connection between the sky and the Inca culture, leaving with a new perspective on astronomy and Andean history.
