The entrance ticket to Machu Picchu

The tours to Machu Picchu already include the entrance ticket to the Inca city. Visitors not traveling with a tour must purchase this ticket.

There are up to three types of tickets: a) the ticket Machupicchu Only, b) the ticket Machupicchu + Huaynapicchu and c) the ticket Machupicchu + Mountain. All allow entry to the Inca city. The last two allow additional income to the mountains of the place.

Tickets can be purchased in person at the authorized offices in the city of Cusco. However, it is best to buy them online through the official website: www.machupicchu.gob.pe.

Tickets offer discounts for: a) people under 18 years of age, b) citizens of Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and Bolivia and c) university students.

Remember that the entrance tickets do not include train tickets to Aguas Calientes or the final bus ticket to the Inca city.

Student requirements

To access the university discount on the entrance ticket to Machu Picchu, visitors must meet the following requirements:

  • Belonging to a university or institute of higher studies.
  • Have a valid university card issued by the official authority of your country.
  • Have current undergraduate studies.
  • Be under 25 years old at the time of the visit to Machu Picchu.

To get the discount for university students, you must make the purchase with the current university card issued by the authority of your country.

The ISIC international student card is not allowed to purchase the ticket with a university discount.

These are the card requirements to access the discount:

  • Plasticized card in good condition.
  • Full and legible names.
  • Updated legible photo.
  • Date of validity of the included card (valid card).
  • Card in the name of the official university entity of the country.

Study certificates, master’s cards, doctorate cards, postgraduate cards, receipts of payments, library cards or registration certificates are not allowed.


How to buy the ticket

To buy the entrance ticket to Machu Picchu with a discount for university students, you must follow the following steps:

  • Enter the official website for ticket sales to Machu Picchu: www.machupicchu.gob.pe.
  • Enter the personal data of the visitors.
  • Select ‘student’ as type of tourist.
  • Make the payment with Visa or MasterCard cards.
  • Print the ticket and present it on the day of the visit to Machu Picchu along with the university card.

  • 1) Do tourists from Peru, Colombia, Ecuador or Bolivia who are university students have a greater discount?
    Yes, these discounts apply if the person is a university student from those countries. For this they must have a valid university card and an identity document (or passport) with the nationality of Peru, Colombia, Ecuador or Bolivia.
  • 2) What to do if I lose my university card before visiting Machu Picchu?
