Its climate can be divided into four different seasons: summer (December to March), autumn (March to June), winter (June to September) and spring (September to December). Lima in January is hot. The temperature can vary from a minimum of 22ºC. up to a maximum of 30ºC. The rains are almost non-existent. Lima’s beaches are packed in summer. The festivities move to the south of the city, especially to Asia Boulevard (at kilometer one hundred of the South Pan-American Highway). It is a good month to enjoy ceviche, the flagship dish of Peru.

  • What to do? Visit the beaches of Barranco, Miraflores or the resorts in the south of Lima.

Lima in February

In February Lima is in full summer. The temperature can vary from a minimum of 20ºC. up to a maximum of 30ºC. It doesn’t rain in Lima in February, although a sudden drizzle may occur. The beaches look full, especially those located in the southern resorts. Every Sunday the people of Lima like to play carnival with water balloons so be careful. It is an excellent month to eat ice cream.

Lima in March

In March, summer is still intense in Lima, although in recent days the temperature can drop. The temperature can vary from a minimum of 20ºC. up to a maximum of 28ºC. Limeños like to go to the beaches or swimming pools. Agua Dulce beach is visited by the population of the ‘cones’ or outskirts of the city. Shopping malls look crowded.

Lima in April

Autumn begins in Lima in April. In the first weeks it is still possible to enjoy the last days of summer. Even when it’s Easter in April, many people from Lima like to camp on the city’s beaches. The average temperature varies from a minimum of 18ºC. up to a maximum of 25ºC. It is a month not so hot and not so cold. It is good for adventure sports such as canoeing in Lunahuaná or paragliding in Miraflores.

The beaches already look empty except for the groups of athletes who practice surfing in the mornings in Barranco and Miraflores.

Lima in June

In June winter begins in Lima. The temperature varies from a minimum of 16ºC. up to a maximum of 20ºC. Showers can occur at any time of the day. It is a good time to visit the hills of the city (such as Lachay or Lúcumo) as well as the jungle part of Lima such as Marcahuasi or Huancaya.

July is one of the coldest months in Lima. The temperature can vary from a minimum of 15ºC. up to a maximum of 19ºC. Drizzles can occur all day although they are more common in the mornings and evenings. Limeños like to try hot soups, the famous broths, in the morning or at night. On July 28, the National Holidays are celebrated with an imposing military parade on Avenue Brasil (July 29).

Lima in August

August is one of the coldest months in Lima. The days are usually covered by a thick fog. Drizzle can occur all day. The temperature can vary from a minimum of 15ºC. up to a maximum of 19ºC. Limeños usually try hot dishes in the morning and at night. August 30 is declared a holiday because it is celebrated on the day of Santa Rosa de Lima. This month is also ideal for visiting the highlands of the department (places like Marcahuasi or Huancaya).

Spring begins at the end of September. Throughout this month the sun’s rays can already be glimpsed in the city. The city feels more radiant. Some people like to walk along the Miraflores boardwalk and enjoy its sunsets facing the sea. They can also walk through the center of Lima and taste traditional Lima desserts. It is a good month to visit the Sierra de Lima. The sky in Lima is not as gray as usual.

October is considered the purple month in Lima. The reason? Throughout this month the traditional processions are held in honor of the Señor de los Milagros, patron saint of the city. It is common to see women dressed in their purple habit. That month the weather is warm temperate. Temperatures vary from a minimum of 15ºC. up to a maximum of 20ºC. There are almost no drizzles. The weather is ideal for strolling through the city center or along the Miraflores boardwalk.

Lima in November

November is a good month to get to know Lima. The weather is neither too hot nor too cold. This can vary from a minimum of 17ºC. up to a maximum of 22ºC. Drizzles rarely occur. Due to the proximity of Christmas, it is a good month to make purchases in the markets of the city center or in the commercial emporium of Gamarra. As throughout the year, a good idea is to visit the famous archaeological centers of Pachacamac or Caral.
