  • Get to know the city of Huanuco, known as ‘the city with the best climate in the world’. The Huanuco City Tour offers a tour of the main tourist attractions of the city, including the Main Square, its cathedral, the Temple of San Cristobal, the Temple of San Francisco, the Calicanto Bridge and the Leoncio Prado School. All tourist attractions are visited with the company of a professional tour guide. In addition, the tour includes pick up and full tourist transportation. The City Tour starts with the pick up at the Plaza de Armas at 8:00 a.m. and ends with the transfer of the visitor to the same point at 11:00 a.m. approximately. The city of Huanuco is famous for its climate, its colonial history and scenic tourist attractions.

  • The City Tour offers an experience through the history and the main monuments of the city of Huanuco. The visitor will learn about the colonial past of the city (founded by the Spaniards on August 15, 1539). As traces of its history, the visitor will be able to know its religious temples, such as: the Cathedral, the Temple of San Francisco, the Temple of San Cristobal, the church of San Sebastian and more. The tour also offers visits to historical places such as the Plaza de Armas, the Leoncio Prado school, the Calicanto bridge (made of lime, egg white and pebbles). The visitor will always be accompanied by a tour guide. You will enjoy a moment with a lot of culture, history, photographs and under one of the cities with the friendliest climate in Peru.

Itinerary

  • The Huanuco City Tour begins with the pick up of the visitor in the Plaza de Armas of the city at 8 in the morning.
  • Then, always in the company of a professional tour guide, we will visit the main buildings of the city center. One of the first places we will visit is the Cathedral of Huanuco.
  • The original construction was built in 1618. Then, it was reconstructed in 1965 and built by the Swiss architect Christian Tgetgel. Inside, the visitor can visit the temple of the Señor de Burgos, considered the patron saint of Huanuco.
  • Next, very close by, the visitor will see the church of San Francisco, built in 1560 by the Franciscan order. The church shows an architecture of neoclassic style, with gilded altars of baroque style in its interior.
  • Then we visit the historic Leoncio Prado School, whose students participated bravely in the war with Spain for the Independence of Peru in 1866 and in the war with Chile in 1879 and 1885. The visitor will have access to its museum where he/she can learn about its history and its contribution to the city of Huanuco.
  • The next tourist destination will be the mausoleum of the Huanuco composer Daniel Alomía Robles, author of the world famous zarzuela El Condor Pasa (premiered at the Mazzi Theater in Lima in 1913).
  • Then you will visit the Viña del Río lagoon, a natural environment in the city. There, you can also visit the Calicanto bridge, which crosses the majestic Huallaga River. The bridge, 60 meters long, has a structure made of boulder stone and a mixture of lime, sand and even egg whites. In both places you can get beautiful pictures of the city.
  • The tour continues with a visit to the church of San Cristobal, the oldest colonial temple in Huanuco. There the tourist will be able to appreciate its beautiful Andean altarpieces and baroque canvases.
  • Before the end of the tour, the visitor can access the House of the Artisans, where you can learn about the work of artisans Huanuqueños and, optionally, you can purchase unique products.
  • The tour ends with the transfer of the visitor to the Plaza de Armas or a central area of the city at about 11:00 am.
