Loreto
The department of Loreto is the largest in extension in Peru. It is located in the northeast of the country, in the heart of the Amazon. Its capital is the city of Iquitos, which is about 1,013 kilometers by air from Lima, the capital of the country. It can only be reached by flight or by a trip on the Amazon River from another port. Iquitos is surrounded by the Amazon River, the Nanay River, the Itaya River and Lake Moronacocha. Despite its difficult access, it receives hundreds of tourists, attracted by its great Amazonian biodiversity, the ancestral culture of its people, traditional medicine with ancestral practices such as ayahuasca and more.
